I commit to make decisions by asking the following questions:
Is it consistent with God’s moral law?
Does it strengthen the family?
Does it create less government?
Does it lower taxes?
Does it promote liberty?
The preamble of our Georgia Constitution clearly supports this.
“To perpetuate the principles of free government, insure justice to all, preserve peace, promote the interest and happiness of the citizen and the family, and to transmit to posterity the enjoyment of liberty, we the people of Georgia, relying upon the protection and guidance of Almighty God, do ordain and establish this constitution.”
These principles will guide me in the careful evaluation of bills. I will seek to understand the intent of the proposed law and any possible abuse or unintended consequences to its adoption.
PRO LIFE PRO FAMILY PRO CONSTITUTION
I believe the right and responsibility for our children’s education belongs to us, the parents. “We The People” elect school board members to serve with the primary task of implementation and management of the policies and educational curricula we LOCALLY deem appropriate. I do not support federal standards, testing, or mandates imposed on our local schools and teachers without parental oversight and approval and local school board involvement. I support a parent’s right to allocate the education funds they contribute to the school that best affirms their values and needs. Plain and simple, parent’s money should follow their child. It is wrong to call the funds for education “public money” when it is our tax dollars that fund the budget. Competition makes our country great, and our educational system will rise to the challenge to be exceptional with the adoption of a true market-led model.
My daughter, Carly, is studying at UGA to be a high school math teacher, and I will fight for her freedom to teach! As a teacher she should be able to teach to the individual student, building on individual strengths rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all standard.
Private sector businesses are the backbone of our economy. Taxes and regulations must be reduced and a positive environment provided to encourage job growth and technological advancement and to reward calculated risks. Government should prevent and remove regulations benefiting a monopoly and do everything to promote small business growth. I will work tirelessly to expand networking opportunities and cut red tape, using all resources at my disposal at the Capitol to grow our local businesses right here in Dacula and Hamilton Mill.
My older daughter, Torrey, will graduate with a degree in business leadership and will look for a job that challenges and sharpens the skills she learned in college. Strengthening our free market business model will enhance everyone’s opportunities to successfully land jobs that contribute to our economy and resolve challenges our society now faces. Government should not be responsible to grow jobs nor compete with private sector businesses.
Budget and Taxation
I commit to evaluate the Georgia Budget as carefully as a personal private business. The role of government must be predicated upon the U.S. Constitution, and therefore, expenditures must follow a litmus test. Government is not the “end all be all” and should not spend recklessly on unwarranted items. We can all agree Washington has a spending problem and it must be a priority to prevent trickle down mandates from the federal government. I will look at every hard-earned dollar taken from you to run government as a meal on the table to feed your family.
The primary role of government outlined in the U.S. Constitution is to preserve the “unalienable” God-given right to life. Both science and conscience affirm that life begins at conception and ends with natural death, commanding the utmost respect and preservation. I stand firmly opposed to Roe v. Wade and support states’ rights under the 10th amendment to the Constitution to ban all abortions and life-ending measures of our unborn. I will fight for senior citizens to have and use every medical tool available to enrich their quality of life as their own family and doctors recommend. I believe healthcare should be a personal choice and oppose any role of government taking away that right.
My son, Calvin, was just accepted to Medical School and I will fight for his right to serve his patients as he and the patient decide—not government or insurance. Patients’ rights and access to quality health care must be defended. Tax-funded abortions and unconstitutional mandates of health coverage for religious institutions must end immediately!
I believe true liberty flows from the moral law of our Almighty God and the earthly laws of our land should align with God’s principles. I commit to uphold the Constitution and God’s moral law. I believe the justice system must develop a more constitutionally-driven approach that is both hard on crime (justice) and compassionate to humanity (grace).
My younger son, Samuel, is a senior at NGCSU seeking a degree in criminal justice. His passion for justice and love for this field led him to legally purchase and carry a firearm. Our Constitutional right allows him to protect and defend himself and our family. I will fight to preserve and strengthen this constitutionally protected right for every family in Georgia.
I agree with the Georgia Constitution that marriage is defined as between one man and one woman. I believe that this God-designed commitment leads to health, happiness, and prosperity. This sacred institution provides the solid foundation for family values which produce involved, informed, well-adjusted citizens to carry our great State and Nation forward.
My wonderful, loving husband of 30 years, Mike, is a hard-working, incredibly dedicated father and husband. Because of our fiscally conservative practices and Christian values, we are so blessed to have raised and supported our four beautiful and talented children who are now in college. We challenge each other to follow God’s direction and fulfill the purpose He designed for us, both as individuals and even more strongly as a unified couple and family. Our children know we stand with God first and always. We lead our lives recognizing our Creator gave us skills to serve and care for others and the strength to do what is right.
